Perplexity’s ‘Pro Search’ The AI upgrade is better at math and research.

Perplexity has released a major update to its Pro Search AI tool, which it says "understands when a question requires planning, walks through objectives step-by-step and synthesizes comprehensive answers more efficiently."

The Perplexity website has examples of what Pro Search can do, including a survey asking when is the best time to see the Northern Lights in Iceland or Finland. It divides its research process into three searches: the best times to see the northern lights in Iceland and Finland; the best sights in Iceland; and the most popular sights of Finland. It then provides a detailed answer covering all aspects of the question, including when and where to see the Northern Lights in each country.

Perplexity's AI search tool can also generate a detailed report based on prompts with a feature called pages. However, recent reports from Wired and Forbes have accused Perplexity of plagiarism, with the Wired report calling the self-proclaimed "shit machine" an "answerer" with animations that misrepresent what it does and data scraping that defies bot rules. txt files.

In addition to extensive research, Perplexity says Search Pro now has advanced math and programming skills that improve its ability to analyze data, debug code and create content. If you want to try it yourself, you can do five searches per day with a free account. Perplexity also offers 600 Professional searches per day for a $20 monthly subscription.
