A widespread Xbox outage prevents gamers from connecting to Xbox Live and playing online games, downloading games, or using other services, and many are seeing the "Error 0x87DD0033" message. In a message sent around 3:00 PM ET, Xbox says it is "aware that some users have been disconnected from Xbox Live" and that the company is "investigating.
"Bethesda, now owned by Microsoft, posted a similar message saying that Xbox Live is "currently experiencing a service outage" and to wait for the Xbox status page. The page says there is a "major outage" in Xbox account and profile services.
"You may not be able to sign in to your Xbox profile, your connection may be disconnected during sign in, or you may experience other related issues," the update says. "Features that require signing in, such as most games, apps, and social activities, are not available.
"Xbox Live issues seemed to start around 2:00 PM ET and Downdetector reports started to increase around that time. No word yet on when Xbox might restore service. The Verge reached out to Microsoft for more information but did not immediately receive a response.
