Xbox has resolved a widespread outage that prevented gamers from connecting to Xbox Live, playing online games, downloading games, or using other services for several hours. "Users should no longer experience problems signing in to Xbox Live and services," says the Xbox X poster. "Thank you for your patience, keep playing!"
Xbox Live issues seemed to start around 2:00 PM ET and Downdetector reports started to increase around that time. Around 3:00 PM ET, Xbox said it was "aware that some users have been disconnected from Xbox Live" and that the company is beginning an "investigation."
Meanwhile, its status page reported a major outage in Xbox account and profile services. "You may find that you are unable to sign in to your Xbox profile, your connection may be disconnected while signing in, or you may experience other related issues," the note reads. "Features that require signing in, such as most games, apps, and social activities, are not available."
At approximately 4:10 PM ET, Xbox said its investigation "will take longer than expected" and did not resolve the issue until approximately 9:00 PM ET. It is not yet clear what caused the hours-long outage. The Verge reached out to Microsoft for more information but did not immediately respond.
